Introducing Retail Sales of "Atsuba Aosa"
Sea Vegetable is excited to announce that starting September 18, 2024, we will begin retail sales of Atsuba Aosa through our official online store. This seaweed features a unique “subtle bitterness” reminiscent of wild vegetables, paired with a rich umami flavor, making it an excellent accent for various dishes.
Previously, Atsuba Aosa was sold primarily to hotels and restaurants, but now we aim to make it accessible to more consumers through retail channels.
Atsuba Aosa is cultivated using a groundbreaking land-based model that utilizes underground seawater, minimizing contamination and allowing for year-round, stable growth. Compared to the commonly known Aosa, Atsuba Aosa is thicker, with a distinctive flavor and fragrance that pairs exceptionally well with dairy products like butter and cream, as well as broths.
World's First Innovative Cultivation Method
In recent years, rising sea temperatures have led to increased activity among invasive species like Aigo and urchins that consume seaweed, resulting in significant damage to seaweed beds across the country. To combat this, Sea Vegetable has researched and revitalized endangered seaweed species through environmentally friendly land and ocean cultivation methods.
Since achieving commercial production of seaweed using underground seawater in 2016, Sea Vegetable has established locations nationwide, from Iwate in the north to Kumamoto in the south. Our operations include the participation of individuals with disabilities and the elderly, ensuring stable cultivation throughout the year.
